ARLINGTON, Texas – The Dance Theatre of Arlington is scheduled to host the second weekend of its holiday-themed Kringle Village event at Knapp Heritage Park on Saturday and Sunday.
The first weekend ran from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3. This weekend, the event is scheduled to run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with varying events scheduled throughout the day.
The Kringle Village returned this December after its two-year hiatus in a new form, event organizer Kelly Joeckel said. The event includes two of Miss Persis Studio of Dance elf shows and a rotating showcase event. But new to this year are other side activities for everyone to enjoy. Activities such as a crafts market, karaoke and a chance to sit on Santa’s lap will all be present at the event. Visitors can purchase day passes for $10 and kids under 12 can enter for free.
The elf shows are scheduled for both weekends but the 3 p.m. showcase will alternate between Saturday and Sunday, Joeckel said. Saturday’s will be host to the Viqueens, Lamar High School’s drill team, while Sunday will be host to the Prime Time Steppers, a group of senior ladies with a knack for tap dancing.
With planning for the event starting as early as June and rehearsals beginning in early October, the Dance Theatre of Arlington looks forward to making the Kringle Village an annual staple of Arlington’s culture, Joeckle said. The theater doesn’t have any other events planned for the month, instead looking forward to its annual scholarship talent show competition in the spring.
The spring talent show has been around since 1966 when it was hosted by the volunteer organization, Sundown Kiwanis; it was then passed on to the Dance Theatre of Arlington in 1994, board president Ellen Timberlake-Volz said. The talent show is for kids in seventh through 12th grades and allows them the chance of winning a scholarship.
The Dance Theatre of Arlington looks forward to making use of Knapp Heritage Park again next year when the event returns. Knapp Heritage Park is up-kept and provided by the courtesy of the Arlington Historical Society, Joeckel said.
