Lone Star Sentinel

About

The Arlington Sentinel was established in spring 2022 by the University of Texas at Arlington Department of Communication to serve news desert communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and to provide the department’s journalism students with experiential learning opportunities in community journalism. Originally known as The Lone Star Sentinel, this vehicle for the news desert initiative now focuses its coverage on Arlington, Texas. In fall 2023, the effort expanded to include work by television broadcast students.

The Arlington Sentinel is grateful to the University of Texas at Arlington and the UTA communication department for its support. The Arlington Sentinel is also deeply grateful for generous financial support from the Scripps Howard Fund. Additional funding was provided by UTA Libraries through a generous Teaching in the Archives Grant. In addition, Arlington Sentinel is grateful for contributions from Freese and Nichols in memory of Jovita Ponce and from community members who value the work of student-powered community journalism.
