KAMAKURA, Japan—Outside the bustle and organized chaos of Tokyo, a bamboo oasis awaits in Kamakura.
At the Hokokuji Temple, visitors can for a modest fee take refuge in a small, bamboo forest behind the main hall of the Zen Buddhist temple. More than 2,000 bamboo stalks soar toward the heavens where gentle winds rustle the leaves.
Visitors also can elect to pay an additional fee to enjoy a cup of matcha at the temple tea house while contemplating the forest.
