ARLINGTON, Texas—The Arlington Animal Shelter is currently at full capacity for dogs and not far behind with cats.
To counteract, the shelter offers what it calls “VIP adoption specials.” These specials range anywhere from $5-25, and include microchip, fixing, vaccines and appropriate testing, as well as a city license for one year.
This round of adoption specials is scheduled to run through the end of October.
The specials occur frequently, often triggered by capacity and timing. In June, the shelter filled to capacity and reached out to the community asking for locals to adopt. The shelter remains full due to the influx of animals.
One local, Kylie Maclean-Hall, has already adopted a kitten from the Arlington Animal Shelter and returned for the Labor Day special to scope out a potential new pet.
“The whole adoption process was simple and easy, and the shelter staff was so sweet,” Maclean-Hall said. “With the adoption specials, it’s so affordable, and the free supplies are a nice bonus.”
Maclean-Hall got her current kitten, Monroe, for $5 back in May during a Memorial Day special. He was too young to be neutered when she adopted him, so the shelter did the procedure two months later, free of charge.
“All of those shots and treatments can get expensive at a regular vet,” Maclean-Hall said. “I will never not come back here, even if it’s just to look.”
