LONGVIEW, Texas – Stretching nearly a mile long and containing almost 2 million lights with countless blow-up decorations, Carmela’s Magical Santa Land opened to the public for the holidays on Nov. 16.

“It’s an annual tradition for almost everyone in town to go by Carmela’s at least once,” said park-goer Ashlyn Frazier. “I’m a first-time mom, and I’m happy to carry on that tradition with my son.”

Those who visit are encouraged to stop, take a picture with Santa, grab a snack and shop at some of the local vendors.

This year, Carmela’s also added a walking trail for people to enjoy and take pictures.

“I’ve seen what a hit the walking trail is with the kids who come to the park,” said Catlen Randle, who has worked at the park for three holiday seasons. “I’ve even made time to take some pictures on [the walking trail] myself.”

As attendees exit the park, there is a place to make donations to keep the park open.

“Everybody has a great time out there because they’re walking, they’re having fun and realize that what they’re doing is actually helping raise money,” Randle said. “Everyone wants Carmela’s to continue.”

Carmela’s is open Sunday to Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Carmela’s Magical Santa Land is scheduled to be open every day through Jan. 5.
