ARLINGTON, Texas—Whether it’s a dimly lit dive bar or a spirited community restaurant, Don Pendley plays where the music feels most alive. These intimate venues, close to the crowd and near home, are where he finds his true rhythm.
Pendley picked up his first guitar at age 11 and joined a band not long after. What started as a childhood passion quickly became a lifelong calling. Since then, he hasn’t stopped performing.
After spending fourteen years in Nashville, Tennessee, perfecting his craft, he returned home with what he considers his signature style: a mix of classic country and rock.
For Pendley, it’s never been about the spotlight. It’s always been about the music and the people who show up to listen.
“I am writing more of what I want to perform live,” he said. “It’s stuff in that vein of how I want to sing and how I want to play. I am not concerned about the industry or what’s trendy. I am staying true to the art.”
Although he says he’s never delivered his greatest performance, Pendley said he believes he’s never had a bad one either. No matter the size of the crowd, each show he aims to make the next one better than the last by reading the room and adjusting his set to connect with the audience and leave it feeling good.
