ARLINGTON, Texas—The Arlington ACTIV Adult Recreation Center opened its doors six months ago to Arlington’s 50+ community. In less than a year, ACTIV has welcomed more than 7,200 registered members and still welcomes more each week.
The foundation of the adult center—located at 2061 W. Green Oaks Blvd.—began after several members of the community showed up to city council meetings in 2017 expressing that they wanted a senior activity center, according to ACTIV’s Administration Aid Daniel Luna.
“The people rallied for a senior center,” Luna said. “It was voted upon in 2017, 2018 and came to fruition in 2022.”
Since its opening, the center has hosted social events and offers fitness classes and educational classes, such as knitting classes, art courses and yoga instruction. The center also offers an indoor pool, a fully equipped gym, a basketball court, a tennis court and a track for members to enjoy as well.
In addition to the courses and amenities, the center also provides Meals on Wheels to those who may benefit from the service.
“Thirty to 50 people who come daily to receive a meal,” Luna said.
Membership fees for the ACTIV Adult Center start at $16, as well as $8 day passes. Membership is exclusively offered to Arlington residents and non-residents aged 50 and up.
“Anyone 50 or over can come in and just work out if they want,” Luna said.
